HELP TIO!

Tio is from one of the two rescued litters of puppies born over a year ago. He had a terrible accident and had a compound fracture of his front leg. Complicated surgery left him with a rod down through one bone and an external fixator on the other (a metal ring contraption supports the fracture from the outside of his leg with stabilizing extensions into his bone - Yuck!). There were also various pins into floating bone chips, but most of them have fallen out. Once all that is removed, rehab will start to hopefully help him regain full usage of his leg. This will be a long hard process, but Tio is a model patient thank heaven. He has been back to the hospital so many times that he eagerly charges through the door, with his tail wagging happily, to be greeted by a chorus of 'Hi, Tio!' from the staff. This has been a very expensive surgery

Here is a photo of Tio today! A happy and healthy boy! We are still doing rehabilitation, acupuncture, TTouch and chiropractic work to be sure everything stays on track for his total recovery. His leg has reduced remarkably, and he is moving beautifully. Because people don't see an enlarged swollen leg any more, their first question is no longer 'Oh my, what happened?' They just want to meet the gorgeous happy pup.

Thank you so much, those of you who have already helped Tio and GRA. It really does 'take a village' to do something like this. Certainly amputation was presented as an option, especially because of the cost of this very expensive surgery. Plus there were the risks involved with the complicated surgery, and there were no guarantees the leg would work properly. We definitely made the right choice, but Greyhound Rescue Austin is still struggling to pay Tio's large surgery bill.

To help Tio, please consider making a donation, using PayPal. You can also mail a check to Greyhound Rescue Austin, 2805 West Fresco Dr., Austin TX 78731.
